This apprenticeship is the ideal progression route for team leaders and supervisors ready to step up to management level, or for existing managers wanting to enhance their skills and performance to consistently drive standards across retail stores.
Apprentices will develop advanced leadership techniques in recruitment, managing team performance and rewarding excellence, alongside proficiency in operational management. They will gain skills in strategic planning, setting and meeting targets to maximise income, monitoring stock levels, and analysis of service and sales data.

APPRENTICESHIP DETAILS
The Retail Manager apprenticeship supports the development of confident and capable store managers who deliver on sales targets, champion outstanding customer service and drive operational excellence. Foster a coaching mentality that inspires high-performing sales teams, upholds brand standards and solves problems by thinking ahead.

The Level 4 Retail Manager apprenticeship programme builds on core knowledge of retail operations and sales performance to develop strong leaders with the ability to turn customer and business insight into shop-floor success.
Equipping learners with a deeper understanding of wider market context including relevant legislation, technology and best practice, this programme helps develop the confidence and skill to create positive customer experiences and increase sales, customer loyalty and spending. They’ll also explore skills in coaching and mentoring, operational efficiency and recruitment and retention.
On completion of this apprenticeship, learners will be able to confidently lead a team within a retail setting and understand how to motivate the team to drive business goals and operational efficiency. Apprentices will also gain financial and resource management skills, improving forecasting, reporting and waste control.
The Level 4 Retail Manager apprenticeship costs £5,000 per learner which includes End-Point Assessment.
Funding
Apprenticeships can be funded from your Apprenticeship Levy or by Government Co-Invest. If you do not pay the Levy, the Government will fund 95% of the programme, meaning you pay as little as £250 per person you enrol. Duration: 15 months
The Level 4 Retail Manager apprenticeship typically takes 15 months to complete, followed by a period of end-point assessment of approximately 3 months.

Managers focus on efficient and compliant retail operations, and how to oversee stock systems, merchandising and availability using technology and data to support decisions, driving operational improvements while ensuring audit, compliance and process standards are met.
7. Governance, Compliance & Inclusion
Managers gain an understanding of the legal, ethical and regulatory requirements in retail, covering health and safety, environmental responsibilities, audits and compliance, alongside diversity and inclusion. They develop the skills to operate responsibly and adapt practices to local and cultural needs.
